Every day a little more popular, TerraMaster brings many new features to the software that serves as the basis for its SIN.

Last summer, Synology made available the new version (the seventh) of its DSM. A few months later, Asustor and QNAP followed suit, the first with ADM 4.0, the second with QTS 5.0.

In the fairly closed circle of NAS manufacturers oriented towards the general public, only TerraMaster was missing… We didn’t have to wait long.

An interface ” three times faster »

Mentioned last February, v5 of the TerraMaster Operating System (TOS) is available and, as its promoter explains, it is “not not just a simple iteration, but a revolution “. No, obviously we are not afraid of words at TerraMaster.

The manufacturer explains that TOS has been “ Packed with over 50 additional features and 600 enhancements » before insisting on what he considers to be the most important modifications. First, it is about making its interface much more responsive. TerraMaster speaks of three times faster thanks to the adoption of a ” progressive JavaScript language “.

He explains that he set up a two-way data link » and speaks of a « automatic synchronous response to data changes in the page “. More directly visible, the interface also benefits from a complete makeover in order to adopt something closer to this fluent design so popular at the moment.

In its version 5, TOS is at the same time more elegant, clearer and faster: it therefore wants to be closer to its direct competitors while adding many features that were often lacking in the previous version.

Finally CCTV!

TerraMaster insists on the integration of WORM, a file system offering broad data protection, particularly against attacks or accidental deletions. A “safe” spirit at the origin of the mode ” insulation which simply cuts off all access to the NAS and adds a digital signature system to protect it.

Beyond simple security issues, TerraMaster was inspired by Synology by implementing TerraMaster RAID (or TRAID) which can be compared to SynoRAID. The idea here is to provide more flexibility in the creation of the RAID stack: the migration is easier and it is also much simpler to adjust the capacity of the stack without the question of deleting the data. .

Highly requested – especially by your dedicated during the test of the F4-423 – video surveillance is also entering the TOS universe. There will undoubtedly be things to review, but TerraMaster already seems to make an interesting copy: camera management, video storage, event / activity management, real-time monitoring, data protection, request system…

There would still be a lot to say about TOS 5 and for something more exhaustive, we invite you to consult the TerraMaster site where you will find details on the new log center, the management of backups and their synchronization, the taking support for virtual machines, double data protection, the new Terra Photos software for snapshot management
