Terrifying negative record: Is Overwatch 2 already over?

Blizzard shouldn’t like that at all. Shortly after the Twitch premiere, the hero shooter Overwatch 2 has lost almost all of its viewers. No game has lost its relevance so quickly. We explain to you the background for this crash.

Is Overwatch 2 going to be a debacle?

When Overwatch came out in 2016, Blizzard was still fine with the world. The multiplayer shooter was well received by the community and the loot box system regularly kept the publisher’s tills ringing.

Since then a lot has happened. Loot boxes are now a no-go and not much is left of the former hype.

With Overwatch 2, Blizzard wants to return to its old strength this year and that Debut on streaming platform Twitch looked pretty good at first. Around 1.5 million users followed the premiere of Overwatch 2 via various live streams.

Only a week later, however, there is no longer any trace of this success. Almost 1,000 viewers are currently watching Overwatch 2 streams. This corresponds to a loss of more than 99 percent. A frightening negative record.

While it’s perfectly normal for viewership to drop after a debut on Twitch, no other well-known game has done so so massively (source: Gamerant).

Overwatch 2’s troubles

There are now numerous videos about Overwatch 2 on YouTube. Most of them are critical in nature.

In this context, the video by videogamedunkey (commentary in English), whose review of the shooter four days later, is particularly worth mentioning 3.6 million views has generated.

According to the YouTuber, the biggest problem with Overwatch 2 is that it’s hardly differs from its predecessor. It looks the same, feels the same, and even repeats the flaws of its predecessor.

The YouTuber also sees Blizzard’s decision to reduce the number of players per match as a clear improvement. That’s what he calls Overwatch 2 in his video Overwatch 1.1 and even uses the word “scam” in this context.
