Terror Process – With a fundraising campaign for ISIS in Syria

Seven years ago, the Oberndorfer (25) was the victim of a stabbing, now he is accused in a terrorist trial: According to the Vienna public prosecutor, he wanted to join the so-called “Islamic State”. For this he collected donations in a mosque. However, he never arrived in Syria.

In February 2014, the Austrian – then 18 years old – came up with a plan with two friends: They wanted to go to Syria to join the terrorist organization “IS”, accused the public prosecutor.

To do this, they collected donations in a mosque in Oberndorf. They used the money to buy the plane tickets. The three of them landed in Istanbul on March 11, 2014, where they met with ISIS members who provided them with accommodation. But the Turkish police got wind of it. While the police were waiting for the three at the bus station, the Austrian decided not to go to Syria. But too late: After the arrest in Istanbul, the now 25-year-old returned.

And a few months later she was the victim of a brutal knife attack: stabs in the face, even in the eye, also left psychological traces. For a long time the 25-year-old was incapable of negotiating – he is therefore only “partially sane”. Now, on Wednesday, he has to face the terror allegation in the regional court. Alone because one of the friends is dead and the other on the run.
