Terror trial in Vienna – 20 years in prison remain for former “hate preachers”.

The trial against the former IS “hate preacher” Mirsad O., who has already been convicted, ended on Wednesday evening. It remains at 20 years imprisonment, an additional sentence was no longer imposed. In addition, the Vienna Regional Court sentenced two co-defendants to prison terms of five months and two years respectively.

According to court spokeswoman Christina Salzborn, Mirsad O. was convicted of attempted incitement to commit terrorist offenses and terrorist financing. For example, he called on young Muslims to engage in jihad and collected 20,000 euros at an event in a mosque, which was forwarded directly to the Islamic State (IS). On the other hand, Mirsad O. was acquitted of some of the charges. “They accepted the verdict.” It was stated that the 20-year prison sentence that had already been imposed will remain the same – a decision that is not final. An increase to life imprisonment would have been possible. “We accepted the verdict,” said defender Leonhard Kregcjk. Mirsad O. had already pleaded guilty to the latest allegations and, according to his own statement, is now cleansed. His trial began at the end of May. Two co-defendants have now also been convicted, but only on individual counts. For example, an Afghan who is said to have preached radical Islamic content and financed terrorism was acquitted of the terrorism allegations. He was believed that the loan was intended for a car purchase but could not have afforded the agreed installments. He was therefore sentenced to five months in prison for fraud and breach of trust. A Bosnian who is said to have participated in the “benefit event” for IS was sentenced to two years in prison for terrorist organization and terrorist financing. Of these, six months are essential. In addition, he was obliged to receive probation and to participate in a de-radicalization program. Residence ban against co-accused The men accepted the sentences, their sentences are not yet final. Originally, five defendants were part of the main hearing. However, one did not show up at all because he was banned from staying in Austria. Another participant had already been sentenced to a three-month conditional sentence at the beginning of June.
