Terrorism An 18-year-old indicted for preparing an attack in the name of Daesh

He is suspected of having wanted to commit an imminent terrorist attack with knives: an 18-year-old young man was arrested in the Drôme and indicted on Tuesday in Paris, AFP learned from judicial sources and close to the case.

The first investigations, confirmed by his statements in police custody, showed that he was planning a terrorist act “in the name of the Islamic State (IS) organization to which he had pledged allegiance”. An allegiance video was discovered in his possession.

Bearer of a threat

The young man had very recently drawn attention to himself, to the point of being considered a threat.

Faced with the imminence of an attack project on his part, a preliminary investigation was opened by the National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office (PNAT) on May 19 for “terrorist association of criminals with a view to the preparation of one or more crimes of ‘attacks on persons’. He was arrested Friday in the Drôme by investigators from the General Directorate of Internal Security (DGSI). He was charged on Tuesday and remanded in custody.

Coming from a Muslim family, the suspect had become radicalized, but the conditions for this have not been specified. His target(s) were not disclosed.
