Tesco: goes electric to ensure deliveries

(CercleFinance.com) – Tesco announces that it is the first retailer to launch a zero-emission electric truck to make deliveries from its distribution centers to city center stores.

The first electric truck of its type, made by Renault Trucks (the D Wide E-Tech model), now delivers to more than 400 stores in Greater London, with more electric trucks coming into service in the coming months.

The vehicle in question has a range of 130 miles (nearly 210 km) and can carry the same payload as the diesel truck it replaces.

This initiative should make it possible to avoid the release into the atmosphere of nearly 23 tons of CO2 per year.

Tesco says it has installed electric charging stations in its Dagenham distribution center in order to be able to recharge the truck.
