Tesla’s dancing humanoid robot could quickly become a reality since the company has announced the postponement of its event on artificial intelligence to September to be able to unveil a first operational prototype.
After making an appointment next August for Tesla AI Day #2, the new event of Elon Musk’s firm centered on artificial intelligence, it could be that the initial date is finally slightly postponed due to a surprise.
An event moved to September 30
For this new edition, scheduled for August 19, one year to the day after the very first, the company has promised interesting new features. The first event of its kind last year, whose main subject was the autonomous driving program, was also an opportunity to unveil new projects.
For example, we were able to discover the Dojo supercomputer, considered at the time to be the 5th fastest supercomputer in the world, but also a humanoid robot named Tesla Optimus which caused a sensation when it was announced. Suffice to say that the appointment was particularly awaited. But the company’s CEO Elon Musk finally announced on Twitter the postponement of the event to September 30.

And to justify this discrepancy, Musk advances the possibility of showing a “real” prototype (this time), but above all functional of his robot.
A seemingly very concrete future
This project, which Tesla already hopes to launch production in 2023 and for which the company had started to hire massively recently, will be programmed in the first place to carry out simple and repetitive logistics tasks, such as those perpetrated within the factories of the Mark. The robot’s capabilities should expand over time and allow it to perform more complex tasks for commercial and more consumer-oriented applications.
Announced for the end of 2022 initially, this functional prototype therefore seems to keep its promises in terms of timing. But we also know the tendency of the company to advance ambitious schedules which often end up being shifted, as with its Roadster presented in 2017 and still in limbo. Tesla has however chosen to make this new project a priority even before its own vehicles.
From the point of view of its creator, Tesla can also be considered as a robotics company, because its vehicles would ultimately only be “robots on wheels with a certain sensitivity“. We should know more about the role that this humanoid robot will play in the firm’s strategy shortly, but it goes without saying that the company is not idle when it comes to designing extraordinary projects.
