Tesla Cybertruck: Elon Musk announces a new delay in production, it will have to wait until 2024

The Cybertruck is definitely a test of patience for anyone who has placed a pre-order. After several postponements, Elon Musk has just announced yet another delay in the production of the electric pickup. The boss of Tesla is now much more hesitant to say that it will start this summer and much prefers to say that mass production will start in early 2024.

In 2019, Elon Musk announced with great fanfare the arrival of the Cybertruck, Tesla’s first electric pickup. At the time, the billionaire was confident about production launch in 2021, only two years later. At the start of 2023, there is no sign of Cybertruck on our roads and the future of the futuristically designed vehicle has never been so uncertain. However, the boss of the manufacturer has repeated many times that it will be available in 2023.

But, now, the latter is careful not to provide a precise date, even with its investors. This Thursday, January 26, took place the meeting on Tesla’s financial results for the fourth quarter of 2022. If the company as a whole is doing very well, recording a profit of $12.5 billion over the whole of 2022 (a sharp jump from 2021’s $5.5 billion), no one seems to know when production of the Cybertruck will actually kick off.

Elon Musk tries to drown the fish by talking about the launch of the Cybertruck

When asked when production can begin, Elon Musk is indeed very evasive. While he assured a few days ago that it would start in June, he is now much more cautious in the face of investors, evoking rather a launch “during the summer”. “I always try to minimize the start of production”he explained. “It’s growing exponentially, but it’s very slow at first.”

And we are only talking about the beginning of the process here. Mass production, on the other hand, won’t arrive before 2024, says Elon Musk. Last November, the CEO estimated that it could start in the fall of 2023. Yet another postponement which does not surprise industry experts. “The Cybertruck will arrive in an increasingly crowded electric vehicle market”warns Jessica Cawell, executive director of studies at Edmunds, who does not hesitate to qualify the pick-up “ancient history”.
