On its Investor Day, Tesla exhibited a pre-production model of its Cybertruck. A good way to let the press discover from every angle one of the latest versions of Elon Musk’s pickup before its final entry into production.
Crucial for Tesla in an American market with a high demand for pick-ups, the Cybertruck showed itself yesterday through a brand new pre-production model exposed to all eyes during the Investor Day held by the manufacturer. This variant is close to the one we will soon find on the roads.
The Cybertruck, a vehicle tested through several prototypes in recent months
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a pre-production unit of the Cybertruck. For several months, the vehicle has been tested by Tesla through several prototypes, all slightly different and each time a little more finalized. The model exhibited yesterday is, however, one of the last prototypes developed by the American manufacturer before the big leap: large-scale production which is due to take place this summer. This model therefore allows us to discover Tesla’s futuristic pickup practically as it should be found in dealerships when it is launched.
As pointed out Electrek, in recent weeks several modifications have been made through various prototypes. Among them, the return of the XXL wiper, the raising of the air suspension or the overall improvement in the level of finishes.
What’s new on this variant?
On this new prototype, the finishes are even better. Enough to match what is expected of a production vehicle. Tesla has also added a new steering wheel that looks quite compact and square. That said, it’s no longer the Yoke steering wheel that we saw in the cabin a few months ago.
Still on the vehicle exhibited yesterday by Tesla, the central console seems to have been modified. It seems more voluminous, so much so that it is not impossible that Tesla finally abandoned the idea of being able to use it as a seat as it was the case at the start. The video shared by Tesla Daily also shows the cameras placed all around the vehicle, including in the front bumper.
As mentioned above, Tesla is supposed to start production of its Cybertruck this summer. However, it is a safe bet that deliveries will be made in dribs and drabs over the rest of 2023. The large-scale marketing of the machine should, for its part, begin in 2024, when production will have reached a sufficient pace.
