As expected, Tesla has delivered the first copies of its electric Semi truck from the Sparks Gigafactory in Nevada.
It was Pepsi who received this first salvo from Tesla Semi, putting an end to a 3-year delay.
The Tesla Semi is (finally!) a reality
In 2017, Tesla lifted the veil on its very first electric truck, soberly called Semi. Five years later, the American manufacturer is finally able to deliver the first copies. Everything was the subject of a dedicated event held on the side of the Gigafactory Nevada.
When the Tesla Semi was made official, Elon Musk had promised the first deliveries for the year 2019. It finally took another 3 years to wait, but the firm’s first electric truck is now a reality. For the occasion, Tesla has posted a video that traces the recent journey made by a Semi, covering more than 800 kilometers on a single charge.
The electric truck war can begin
We have known it for a few long months already, it was the American company Pepsi which was the first to order the Tesla Semi, and which therefore delivered around a hundred trucks at the end of 2022. Among the future customers to drive aboard this truck, Anheuser-Busch, the Walmart group and the UPS carrier are announced.
However, we will have to wait a little longer to know the first international customers of the Tesla Semi. As of now, Tesla hasn’t announced any delivery dates outside of the United States, or even revealed which companies fell for its electric heavy-duty truck.
A few weeks ago, Renault Trucks took malicious pleasure in stealing Tesla by announcing a partnership with… Coca-Cola. Five Renault Trucks E-tech D and D Wide vehicles have already started driving in the Antwerp region, in Belgium, and a total of 30 trucks will be received by Coca-Cola Europacific Partners.
For the record, we do not know precisely the exact price of a Tesla Semi truck, but each pre-order requires a deposit of 20,000 dollars.
