ELECTRIC CAR

The Tesla Model 3 electric car is a top seller. But the Chinese company BYD has long been putting a lot of pressure on Tesla. With the Seal limousine, BYD now wants to know.

While every child in this country knows Tesla, things are completely different at the Chinese car manufacturer Build your Dreams (BYD). Best known for its “ridiculously cheap electric cars” such as the Yuan UP or the equally inexpensive Seagull, BYD also sells some electric cars in Germany.

The BYD Seal is a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y. The manufacturer promises a range of 570 kilometers according to WLTP, fast charging within 26 minutes (from 30 to 80 percent) and impressive acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h within 3.8 seconds. There is also a whopping torque of 670 Newton meters with an output of 390 kW (530 hp).

Acceleration? Tesla often advertises this and has even devised special driving modes for it (Launch Control + Ludicrous Mode). The Long Range version of the Tesla Model 3 delivers two electric motors, 490 hp and 490 Newton meters of torque and is a bit lighter than the Chinese alternative. The question: “Who accelerates faster?” imposes itself.

That’s exactly what the British automobile magazine Carwow found out in a classic drag race over a quarter of a mile. And the result is extremely close, as you can see in the embedded video. You can read more news from the world of electric cars here.
