Tesla just issued a recall for more than 2 million cars for a reason that may surprise you: a font size issue that could affect driver safety.
The company claims that the font size of the brake warning system on the dashboard is too small and that this could reduce the driver’s ability to notice it when it comes on, thus increasing the risk of collision.
Tesla therefore decided to recall all Tesla vehicles on the road in the United States, including the Model 3, Model S, Model X, Model Y and Cybertruck. The recall was announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which discovered the problem during a routine audit of Tesla vehicles. NHTSA states that the font size of brake, parking, and anti-lock braking system (ABS) warning lights is less than 3.2 millimeters, which corresponds to the minimum size required by federal motor vehicle safety standards (FMVSS).

The problem is unlikely to have caused any accidents.
Tesla says it is not aware of any accidents or injuries caused by this font size issue, and that it will correct the problem with a software update which will adjust the font size to conform to the FMVSS standard.
As is often the case, Tesla owners have no no need to take their vehicle to a service center to receive the update, as Tesla usually does for these types of recalls. This isn’t the first time Tesla has had to release a software update for its entire fleet in recent months.
