WASHINGTON, March 4 (Reuters) – Tesla Inc has announced a recall of 3,470 2022-2023 Model Y vehicles in the United States because bolts securing the seat back frames may not have been properly tightened, a filing shows. made public on Saturday.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has specified that a loose seat frame bolt could reduce the performance of the seat belt system, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.
Tesla told NHTSA it has identified five warranty claims since December that may be related to the issue. The electric car maker added that it is not aware of any related injuries or deaths.
Tesla will inspect the bolts that secure the driver-side and passenger-side rear seatback frames to the lower seat frames and, if necessary, tighten them to specification.
In December, a Tesla supplier implemented enhanced process controls and a training and supervision system to ensure bolts are tightened to specifications, the automaker said. (French version Benjamin Mallet)
