Elon Musk’s communication continues to rock. Without warning, the famous billionaire entrepreneur revealed information that everyone was waiting for: the announcement of a new model at €25,000. And, icing on the cake, this electric vehicle would be Made in Europe.
The €25,000 Tesla produced in Europe, it’s confirmed
During a visit to the Berlin Gigafactory, Elon Musk actually took the time to share some information on Tesla’s long-awaited €25,000 electric vehicle. In addition to confirming this model, the chosen production location is this same and unique European industrial complex.
As a reminder, the Berlin production line is currently exclusively reserved for the manufacturer’s first electric SUV: the Tesla Model Y. By introducing the potential Model 2 or Model A, the American company would ensure to conquer the European market, more fond of low-cost models.
Adding to this Tesla’s expertise and the aid put in place, such as the ecological bonus in France, consumers would be quickly and easily convinced by a new Tesla car priced at €20,000. It could also come to battle with recent and future accessible models, including the Citroën ë-C3, the Renault 5 E-Tech or even the Volkswagen ID.2.
The Berlin Gigafactory is expanding
For information, this announcement from Elon Musk seems to be a nice clarification regarding the reason for the expansion work carried out by the Berlin Gigafactory. Initially, this area was to be dedicated to the production of batteries. The project having been suspended for several months, its replacement by assembly lines for this first affordable Tesla vehicle would seem totally plausible and possible.
Regarding the configuration of the Model 2 or A, nothing has been made official yet by Elon Musk. The only valid assumption is the fact that this electric car will have a more compact design than the Model 3, thus becoming closer to a city car. It is also important to remember that this type of vehicle, more compact than the manufacturer’s sedans and SUVs, is very popular in Europe.
In addition to this, we know that this future vehicle will follow the “Next-Gen” project, Tesla’s future platform which should allow it to produce more than 20 million vehicles per year.
The €25,000 model, however, is not ready to be marketed. It is indeed important to emphasize that Tesla has many projects in progress, such as the delivery of its long-awaited 100% electric pickup, the Cybertruck, announced in 2019 and whose marketing is due to begin next December. The second generation of Roadster, made official in 2017, is also long overdue.
