Ultimately, it aims for mass production and a much more affordable price than the competition.
Optimus relies on vision, like Full Self-Driving
In a previous video from May, Tesla showed how its robot could walk, memorize environments, pick up objects and put them down.
His progress is obvious. In this new video, Optimus autocalibrates his arms and legs using only vision and joint position coding, allowing him to precisely locate his limbs in space. In this way, he can learn to perform various tasks more efficiently. We observe him independently sorting blocks by color, then repositioning them correctly if they are not placed vertically on the trays. Optimus also reveals his astonishing balancing prowess and tries his hand at yoga, with a sign of Namaste to the viewer.
Tesla says the humanoid’s neural network operates entirely on board using vision alone. It is trained end-to-end with video input and command output, the company assures. It thus uses the same approach as with its controversial Full Self-Driving, its driving assistance system which aims to achieve autonomy.
A soon-to-competitive market?
