The Tesla Cybertruck, which arouses all fantasies, makes a strong impression by showing itself in France, at VivaTech. We were able to board the vehicle and familiarize ourselves with it.
It is with its five meters long and three tonnes on the scale that the Tesla Cybertruck made its appearance, for the first time, at VivaTech and even in France. This week, the vehicle dear to Elon Musk parades in the largest tech show on the Old Continent, and opens its imposing doors to journalists. This is how I was able to discover from the outside but also from the inside the vehicle with its necessarily discussed, but daring, curves. Let yourself be guided.
An over-equipped Cybertruck, which incorporates the fundamentals of Tesla vehicles
Definitely, the Cybertruck is not a vehicle like any other. As soon as I boarded, in the hustle and bustle of Hall 2 of Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, I no longer felt like I was at VivaTech. In any case, as far as the sound side is concerned. Because dozens of smartphones are aimed, not at me but at the vehicle. And on board, the silence is almost total, this is a great opportunity to admire the 360° acoustic work done by the American brand. But let’s get started.
The first two things that jump out at me are the tablet and the steering wheel. As for the tablet, it is the largest of all Tesla vehicles (18.5 inches), even wider than those of the Model controls: direction, steering wheel position, we have access to navigation data, consumption data, etc. You can adjust everything from the screen, including the dynamic controls, if for example you want to venture onto uneven terrain. We have induction pads, the seats are heated and ventilated.
The central mirror is rather thin, too thin in my opinion. But that’s without counting on the cameras which offer us, via the vehicle’s screen, an almost 360° view of what is happening around the vehicle: 180° at the front, the sides, and 180° at the rear. ‘back. Connectivity and software remain the same as on other Tesla ranges.
The interior living space is rather large, and in the rear, the seats are really spacious. I have legs that are a little wide, practical for playing tennis but not really for playing tight-fitting, it’s sincerely appreciable. The vehicle is a non-exaggerated five-seater. Moreover, at the rear, we find another screen (nice 9.4 inch baby), certainly more modest but which allows you to connect two headsets via Bluetooth, ideal for a little road trip with friends or family. In total, the vehicle is equipped with around fifteen speakers.
Unusual capabilities for the pick-up
The Tesla Cybertruck has the performance of a sports car, the space of a family car and the vein of a pick-up. Two versions are currently in production and shipping to the United States exclusively. Here I am in the Cybertruck dual motor all-wheel drive, which costs $79,000. This offers 545 km of autonomy, and a climb from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. Its maximum speed is 180 km/h.
We welcome its towing capacity, which flirts with 5 tonnes, comparable to the weight of an African elephant, and the payload of more than 1,100 kilos. I can confirm it to you, the “trunk”, impressive when it closes, is a luxury storage room.
Next to it, we find the Cyberbeast, a 3-motor version which goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds, with a slightly reduced range, around 500 kilometers. The tri-motor model is sold at $99,000.
A third version of the Cybertruck, entry-level, should arrive in 2025
While waiting for Europe (perhaps in 2025?), several thousand Cybertrucks have already been delivered to the country of Uncle Sam, the country of the pick-up par excellence it must be admitted. But next year, a third version of the beast will appear, a “single propulsion” edition, which will start at $60,000. A sort of entry-level Cybertruck.
When getting out of the Cybertruck, I don’t fail to photograph the small details of the vehicle, telling you that you only need to barely rub your finger on the doors to open them, since the vehicle is equipped with touch buttons.
As for the tires, well, that speaks for itself. It’s a bit like comparing the engine of an A380 with that of an A320: nothing to do with it. The Cybertruck is a bit the same, a sort of automobile UFO, of which we do not know whether it will meet its audience in France or in Europe. But he deserves it to offer something exhilarating and different. Pure Elon Musk.
