Elon Musk specifies the new exit window for Tesla’s Cybertruck, his electric pickup with a futuristic aesthetic. It will be, at best, in a year.
Remember Tesla’s Cybertruck? This electric pickup straight out of a science fiction movie will eventually hit the market. Indeed, Elon Musk, who thinks it will be “the best car designed by Tesla to date”, said it could launch in mid-2023. The use of the conditional is not trivial, Musk and Tesla having an arm’s length history of delayed launches.
“We still hope to be able to start production of the Cybertruck in the middle of next year and deliver the first vehicles as soon as possible then. We are very excited about this product”declared the boss in front of the shareholders of the company, on the occasion of the publication of the results of the second quarter.
Despite a few prototypes of the pickup seen on the roads in recent years, the start of the Cybertruck has always been postponed by Tesla, which has given priority to more crucial models for its development such as the Model 3, the sedan the most economical in the manufacturer’s range. More recently, it’s the Model Y compact electric SUV that has captured Tesla’s attention. Delayed in Europe, it is currently a hit in the United States.
Often, it is production concerns that have caused the company to delay the marketing of its cars. But for the Cybertruck, Elon Musk is hopeful of avoiding problems. “We will bring another level of simplicity and improved manufacturing with the Cybertruck, but also with future products that we are not yet ready to talk about”he explained, assuring that the experience helps the manufacturer to significantly improve the efficiency of its production lines.
As a reminder, the Cybertruck will first be manufactured in the very modern Gigafactory in Austin, set up by Tesla thanks to 1.1 billion dollars of investment. A site that was not chosen at random since it is in Texas that the most pick-ups in the United States are historically sold each year.
