Tesla’s Supercharger V4 should be a reality soon

Tesla has yet to announce the release of its most advanced supercharger, the Supercharger V4. However, thanks to the design plans, we know what it will look like. According to some leaked images on the social network Twitter, the first site equipped with the Supercharger V4 will first be installed in the State of Arizona, in the United States.

The site will be large, with 40 boxes, two 4,500 square foot solar panels and a Megapack. The solar panels will be put to good use in Yuma, Arizona, where it only rains 2 inches per year and the sun shines every day. The Tesla Megapack at the site will also harness sunlight to store large amounts of energy. According to Tesla’s website, each Megapack unit can store more than 3 MWh of energy, enough energy to power an average of 3,600 homes for one hour.

The Supercharger V3, the supercharger currently in use, was launched in 2019 and has an output of 250 kW. Tesla’s new supercharger can be expected to surpass its predecessor in terms of charging power, with at least 300 kW. Despite the increase in power output, the design of the Supercharger V4 will remain basically the same. Design plans reveal that it will have the same shape, the only difference being that the nozzle will live on the outside, as opposed to the hollow interior where it currently lives.

Demand is exploding

Rising fuel prices globally are making electric vehicles more attractive than ever. A Canalys study shows that the demand for electric vehicles (EV) has continued to grow, with 4.2 million vehicles sold worldwide in the first half of 2022, a growth of 63% compared to the first half of 2021.

On the Old Continent, 1.1 million electric vehicles were delivered in the first half of 2022, or 20% of its car sales. Europe holds 27% of global market sales for the first half of 2022. Despite accounting for a large share of the market, EV sales in Europe have lost momentum, growing 4% since the first half. semester 2021.

As a reminder, the leaders in the manufacture of electric vehicles are BYD, Tesla, SAIC Motor, Volkswagen and Geely. It should be noted that Chinese OEMs dominate electric vehicle manufacturing – BYD, SAIC Motor and Geely being among the top five manufacturers.
