The Android 13 beta is here. We’ll tell you how you can register for these and try out the new OS versions in advance.

Google has released the public beta of Android 13. From now on, not only developers, but also you can try out the new OS for tablets and cell phones – provided you have one of the following Google cell phones:

A notice: Don’t you own one of the mentioned Google phones, but a device from another manufacturer? Then skip the following paragraphs and continue reading in the section “Testing Android 13 on phones from other manufacturers”.

Before you load and then install a new version of your Android operating system on your smartphone, it makes sense to back up your data. We show you how to do this in our tips, tricks and tutorials for managing data on Android.

Enrollment in Google’s Android beta program

    Then scroll down to “Your eligible devices”.

    By clicking on the green button entitled “Register device” next to your device, you activate participation in the Android beta program.

Wait for OTA update

    The update should then be available for download on your device within 24 hours. When the message appears, click “Install”.

Exit Android 13 Beta

To revert back to the regular Android version, log into the beta program as shown and click Deregister Device next to your phone. You will then receive the regular, stable Android version again via OTA update.

Test Android 13 on phones from other manufacturers

At Google I/O, Google opened up the Android 13 beta program to non-Pixel devices as well. You can also try the new OS on selected devices from 11 other manufacturers – including Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo and Nokia.

Registering for the beta and installing the trial version differs from manufacturer to manufacturer. Details can be found on the relevant websites, which we have linked to the devices eligible for the beta below.

Please note that for some of these devices only so-called developer previews exist. These early preview versions are aimed explicitly at app developers. We therefore advise you not to install them. There is a risk of damaging your cell phone, and you will lose all data in the process.
