TEST Assetto Corsa Competizione: flashy PS5 and Xbox Series X and S versions?

During 2020, players were able to discover a fun racing game designed by Kunos Simulation, Assetto Corsa Competizione. If you have a PS5 and/or an Xbox Series X|S, well, know that a “next gen” edition is available on our shelves. First of all, great news, if you already own the game on “old gen”, you can download an update for free. Moreover, is the rendering explosive? More flashy?

Several visual aspects should have been tweaked.

We headed into the settings and, no, there are no new visual options. Thereby, the developers impose a single rendering in 4K. The title is therefore finer, more pleasing to the eye, the textures seem to be more detailed for once. Furthermore, the frame rate is much better, we are entitled to constant 60 fpsbringing significant comfort to the peepers, and it feels good.

So yes, it’s beautiful, clean and it tickles the pupil, but defects are still present. The first ? the popping and the clipping aggressive in environments. Thus, decorative elements and textures appear without warning in the foreground and background. It’s a shame, because the image is really beautiful. The second ? The rear view mirror… We are treated to runny, pixelated and jerky graphics in a small rectangle. Why not take advantage of this new version to modify that, and bring something more graceful?

Also, if you’re having fun on PS5, be aware that some features of the DualSense are exploited. The vibrations more or less intensify when the tires begin to race. During hard braking, the rear trigger gets excited and slams on our index finger. The LEDs also panic and flash! The feelings are really good, the team did their best to make us feel the movements of our carand the result is more than convincing.

Beyond the amusing returns in our hands, the studio has contented itself with the minimum to offer a better experience to the new generation. Certainly, Assetto Corsa Competizione in 4K and 60 fps is pleasantbut several visual aspects should have been tweaked to bring that little extra, that graphic break between the old gen and this version. Maybe later via a patch? Who knows…
