TEST Logitech Pro X 2 Lightspeed: the ultimate headset for gamers?

Logitech further expands its catalog of peripherals for gamers with the Pro X 2 Lightspeed, the latest model in its range of helmets cut for competition e-sports. The Swiss manufacturer presented its helmet in detail quite recently and we also had the opportunity to try it for several days. Could this be the ultimate headset for gamers?

An almost perfect helmet, with clear sound and appreciable versatility.

Visually speaking, not much distinguishes the Pro X2 Lightspeed of his predecessors. We find quite imposing and bulky headphones, sometimes reminiscent of models for audiophileswith large matt black oval ear cups (the headphones are also available in white) and a silver circle with the logo G of Logitech. The headband at the level of the skull is still just as wide, with a leatherette band, the latter is notched to adapt to all skull shapes, but the manufacturer has especially innovated on the side of the ear cups for comfort. In addition to rotating slightly on the vertical axis, the ear cups now also rotate on the horizontal axis, to better fit the shape of the head and above all allow the helmet to rest around the neck when not in use. We have the a Pro X 2 Lightspeed of very good quality, very well finished and whose resistance gives confidence, while comfort is fine-tuned thanks to these pivoting ear cups.

As for the contents of the box, Logitech was generous, and we first find a second pair of earpieces. Basic, it’s the leatherette covering that is equipped on the Pro X 2 Lightspeed, for effective passive noise isolation, but which tends to heat up the user’s ears quickly after a few hours. With the coming summer, the mesh fabric covering is often more suitable, the head breathes a little better and the helmet is a little less useful for large skulls, even if it is necessary to rely on sound insulation obviously a little less effective. The box also contains a detachable microphone (we’ll get to that later), a carrying pouch that’s a little too lightly padded with foam to provide real protection (but that’s better than nothing), and several cables. First we have a USB-C cable to charge the wireless headphones, but also a Jack 3.5 cable to use the Pro X2 Lightspeed on a controller, smartphone or portable console, making headphones compatible with many deviceswhether used in wireless or wired. But the real interest of the model still lies in its use on PC with the dongle also included in the box.

The one on the right only has the Jack 3.5 port to connect the removable cable, everything else happens on the left with a hole to insert the microphone, a USB-C port for recharging, the power button, a small button for Bluetooth, a final push button to mute the microphone on the fly and a wheel to adjust the volume. Yes, it can be a lot, but everything is sufficiently well placed for the user to find his way around very easily, especially thanks to the textures on the microphone button and on the wheel. The finger immediately falls where it should without having to remove the helmet from his head to make adjustments, it is significant.

Well, and the sound in all this? In this Pro X2 Lightspeed, Logitech broke speakers HP Pro-G 50mm graphene, different from Pro-G from the previous model, for a slightly different sound. This time, the sound reproduction is very clear, the bass is there, but remains very well managed, never taking over the highs or mids. It is above all the sound power that impresses, sound is wide and punchy, fully immersing the user in their activity, whether listening to music, watching a movie or of course playing. Whether in Bluetooth or with the Jack 3.5 cable, the sound reproduction of the headphones is a delight, but the Pro X2 Lightspeed is still thought to be used on PC with the dongle.

A headset for all activities, regardless of platform.

Logitech Pro X 2 Lightspeed TEST Gamergen (4)Here the user can enjoy the features of the software G-Hubby activating in particular the sound Surround DTS Headphone: X2.0with 7.1 offering ideal spatialization for competitive gamesin particular the FPS. The sounds are immediately localizable in the virtual environment, it’s precise and very well balanced, footsteps are slightly highlighted and voices are clear and audible. Basically, it’s already excellent, but the software is full of modifiable parameters to fine-tune the sound rendering and adjust the spatialization according to the games and activities, it’s simple and complete, with recordable profiles to quickly alternate between the settings. If the Pro X2 Lightspeed is very nice in Bluetooth or Jack 3.5, it is especially worth the detour on PC with the dongle And G-Hub, the other connectors being mainly there to make it versatile. The user has there a headset for all activities, regardless of the platform.

Finally, a quick word on the microphone, which is essentially the same as on the Pro X Wireless. Logitech obviously uses technology Blue Voice In a detachable gooseneck microphone, we find a 6 mm cardioid capsule with improved bandwidth, but the rendering differs depending on the connectivity. In Bluetooth and Jack 3.5, it’s very correct, the sound is clear and audible, but there is still noise here and there. For the simple discussion between friends, it is perfectly sufficient, but again, the microphone stands out on PC with G-Hub. Basically, the rendering is very average, it’s quite surprising, and it’s very difficult to get anything out of it, but fortunately, by activating Blue Voice in the software, everything is in order.

The voice is clear and crisp, the noise disappears almost completelyand if that’s not enough, G-Hub offers a bunch of options to reduce distortion or surrounding noise. If you don’t like to put your hands in the settings, don’t panic, many profiles are there to apply profiles to the microphone, it goes from filters a little violent to of the presets much more useful and practical, making the voice even clearer. Little jokers who like unrealistic voices can finally find lots of additional effects, their only use is to make friends laugh on Discord the sound is so distorted.

With the Pro X2 Lightspeed, Logitech propose an almost perfect helmet, with a clear sound and appreciable versatility. The model can be used on any platform, whether with Jack 3.5 or Bluetooth, but it is on PC that it reveals all its qualities thanks to the software G-Hub. An ultimate helmet that manages to do better than the Pro X Wireless, and finally, we don’t have much to complain about, except for the absence of a feature that would have made it even more versatile for audiophiles: active noise reduction, especially in Bluetooth for listening in public transport. But difficult to be choosy, the Pro X 2 Lightspeed is a headset designed above all for gaminghe succeeds in what he wants to do by erasing the small defects of the previous model.
