TEST Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: when the incredible comes to PS5

After a remarkable adventure with Peter Parkerafter a nice getaway with Miles Moralesour friends are back in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2the new production of Sony Interactive Entertainment and D’Insomniac Games which is available exclusively on PS5. Two heroes to control, new enemies, new abilities, the title is enough to make you drool on paper, but is it entertaining? So we have completed this new beast, it is time to tell you about it.

Incredibly beautiful.

The graphics are undoubtedly one of the strong points of this title. And for good reason, the developers have done everything to impress us by making the most of the console’s characteristics. Thus, we are entitled to a truly flashy image which tickles the retina as it should. The environments are crowded with various elements, the buildings are gigantic and numerous, life reigns absolutely everywhere, it’s pure visual madness ! In the middle of the day, the NPC go about their lives, have somewhat basic activities, but hang out in the streets. During the night, the neighborhoods are empty, New York is asleep. The firm tries to bring a minimum of realism to a virtual universe, it goes really well. Another point and not least, the Ray Tracing is simply used wonderfully! Indeed, the reflections are impressive and are especially different from one material to another. You are certainly asking yourself questions regarding the technical part, well there too, very good work has been accomplished.

The player has various settings to choose from in the options. Thus, it can prioritize either image quality or performance. On the one hand, the textures are fine and impressive, and the background incredibly beautiful. On the other, the frame rate is high and allows for fluid movements, but the rendering can appear slightly blurry at times, especially in the background. In addition, it is also possible to select 120 fps (if your television allows it), but the resolution drops considerably. The ideal in all of this to enjoy a brilliant experience? If your screen is suitable, we advise Quality with the VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) activated, and it’s literally a slap in the face! It’s fluid, it’s magnificent, it’s incredible… Add to that a HDR of quality to enjoy natural results on the side of the lights, and it’s champagne. Fantastic !

Praise, praise and more praise, but are there any imperfections around? Who says open world, necessarily says little bugs here and there. Thus, we saw cars plowed into the road, people walking on low walls, and some collision bugs. Then, there were also scripting problems (twice). To give you an example, during a melee, enemies had to get out of a flying vehicle to complete our objective and… they never appeared; forcing us to restart the mission. These faults are not very numerous, but it is always good to point them out. And let’s not forget that patches will correct these problems over the weeksbut basically, know that they are not that disturbing.

Regarding the soundtrack, it’s caviar for our ears. The chants are worthy of a feature film and transport us, with emotion, into this gripping and striking odyssey. The notes are calm during our escapades in the city, they get excited when adversaries come to fight, and shift into the epic when an important protagonist emerges into the picture. The music fits perfectly with the cutscenes, the phases in-game and the staging is a joy. Without surprise, French voices are included to properly immerse us in this production. The intonations are excellent and the lip sync is good (phew). Obviously, the language of Shakespeare is also present but, sincerely, why deprive yourself of quality dubbing which does not take us out of the game; nothing better to experience this adventure 100%, without having to look at subtitles.

This second episode takes up the basics of the first Marvel’s Spider-Man but also of Miles Morales. Thus, we can sprint, climb on walls, swing… During a confrontation, we have the possibility of targeting an opponent to focus on them, and use various accessories to eliminate several opponents at once. In other words, we find our bearings very quickly.

It’s simply enjoyable.

Unsurprisingly, something new comes into this production. During our exploration phases, we can now “glide” using a web directly embedded on our costume. Furthermore, to move quickly from one neighborhood to another, we can take air currents which boost our speed. Certain gusts propel us a little higher into the skies, in short, this addition is very welcome. In addition, the more we advance in our exploration, the more we discover new facets of the city which is now larger. First of all, you should know that not all of New York is modeled, but only a few large parts; it is therefore still not possible to make fun of the Statue of Liberty.

To reach certain secondary missions, we can teleport while passing through the map, and it must be said that we were impressed by the speed of loading, it’s instantaneous. Our character appears at the other end of the map without an intermediate screen, the game loads the environment in a snap, it’s amazing. Another point, if we are not carrying out an important main quest, we can change characters at any time. You prefer the offbeat style of Miles and his powers? No problem, just select it!

Furthermore, the fights are still just as violent and dynamic. Our heroes become stronger and stronger over time and are entitled to supercharged powers. Skill points are awarded after completing a mission, and allow you to obtain new moves, moves, and abilities. This time, 3 skill trees are available, one for To fartone for Miles, and a last one for both. We must therefore manage our protagonists well in order to progress with a certain ease. New offensives arise in this production, we avoid telling you what precisely to leave you the pleasure of discovery, but you will really enjoy yourself during these phasesit’s simply enjoyable.

And the DualSense in all of that ? Some features are used wonderfully, such as the adaptive triggers which make us feel the pressure of the webs. We also appreciated the sounds coming out of the speaker which plays a lot on the psychosis of Parker when wearing the symbiote outfit. The vibrations are not funwe discern simple jolts during big impacts, nothing to tickle the hands.

Kraven emerges on the streets of New York and wants new challenges. He then travels the city to find opponents equal to him. But he’s not the only big bad to do the showsince Venom shows the tip of his nose and he is not here to joke… In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, To fart And Miles are back in an adventure that will greatly influence their personality and their behavior with those around them. THE Spiderman must protect the populace, while managing their private lives. We therefore carefully follow this story which was able to keep us in suspense until the final credits.

Once you start, it’s hard to stop.

Because yes, the rhythm is excellent, we are entitled to touching, moving, and surprising moments. The staging is grandiose and the story manages to bring out a few tears from us. This second opus isn’t just about beating up bad guys and swinging in the streets, it’s also the little moments of life that we share with our heroes. How long did it take us to reach the end of the tunnel? By dragging your feet a bit, carrying out a few secondary tasks (and there are quite a few), we took around twenty hours. After what ? We can return to the game to complete various objectives to inflate lifespan. Arrest criminals, find hideouts, solve puzzles, the missions are not the same to avoid monotonyin short, there is plenty to do to have fun.

Like we said before, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 takes the basics of old titles and refines certain aspects, while adding new things. There was a huge amount of work on the writing to surprise and shake up fans of the license a bit. Spectacular, stunning, astonishing, you will find yourself holding your breath during certain sensational phases. You will have understood, once started, hard to stop, don’t miss out on theSpider Man.
