TEST Metroid Prime Remastered: an incredible port on Switch

If you own a GameCube, you did not miss this marvel in the 2000s, Metroid Prime. nintendo broke the codes of the franchise and offered players a FPS supercharged. Here we embody Samus who cleans up the planet Tallon IV. The Japanese giant, without warning, has just released an edition Remastered on Switch, of course, we couldn’t help but start a game in order to give you our impressions. We are not going to return to this epic adventure, but to look concretely at the novelties and the changes. An adaptation that explodes the peepers? In a word: yes!

Don’t miss this legendary title!

The devs didn’t just bring the title of yesteryear to our beloved machine of the moment, they also brainstormed to improve certain visual points in order to titillate our peepers. To begin with, anti aliasing has been applied to the contours, and it feels good. Afterwards, the team reworked the environments. So, textures are sharper and more detailed than the original game. They also have added elements in the decorations and have improved the play of light which is much more striking. The colors seem much warmer too. But to put it simply, we have the impression of seeing a remake so much work has been done, the graphics gently tickle the pupils, it’s a real pleasure for the eyes. So yes, there are small flaws, like a bit of popping, but nothing too bad in itself. Moreover, whether in mode Portable Or TV, Metroid Prime Remastered looks great and runs perfectly.

The grip has been revised to bring a certain flexibility in movement. As a reminder, shooting was done with buttons (AT And X), you had to hold down a trigger to move the camera. Well, let’s breathe a little, this “camera” can now be controlled with the right joystick and the shoot prime with the triggers for optimal comfort. The title becomes much more pleasant, the gameplay is engaging and fun. If you’re an old-timer who loved old-school controls, you can select the “Classic” mode in the settings. Even better, you can combine the two types of commands to enjoy a gameplay old-fashioned and modern at the same time.

For those who enjoyed the Wii version (yes, there was also an adaptation on the old platform of nintendo), the pointer can be mastered with the gyroscope of the Joy-Con. It’s quite tedious for once, it takes a little time to adapt to master the aim. Anyway, here too, the firm has done an excellent job and leaves the choice of controls to the players to be entertained as they wish.

Test Impressions Metroid Prime Remastered

Honestly, we don’t feel like we’re seeing a production that dates back to 2002. Superb graphics, a more welcoming grip, still engaging music (thanks Kenji Yamamoto), an absorbing and captivating atmosphere… This Metroid Prime Remastered is a gem, which frustrates us at the same time. And for good reason, we would not have been against a good compilation bringing together the three Metroid Prime of yesteryear in this aspect, to make us wait until the arrival of the fourth episode. In the meantime, if you have a Switch at home (on OLED, it slaps), do not miss this legendary title!

You can pre-order the physical version of Metroid Prime Remastered at Fnac at €39.99.
