TEST Red Dead Redemption: a catastrophic port on Switch?

who does not know Red Dead Redemption Today ? In 2010, Rockstar is streaming a brand new title, an open world with a whole bunch of cowboys specifically, on the consoles of Sony Interactive Entertainment and of Microsoft. Several years have passed and the firm has made the decision to bring this landmark adventure to various platforms. The machine that interests us? The beauty of nintendo : the Switch. Inevitably, when we talk about carrying, there are questions to ask. Does this adaptation have anything to excite? Answer in this test which focuses mainly on performance!

Red Dead Redemption is a classic that deserves your attention.

To begin with, are there differences between the mode Portable and fashion TV ? Other than resolution, no. On one side, Red Dead Redemption displays 720p, on the other, 1080p, all in 30 fps ; too bad not to have unbridled the game a little to have a more fluid image in the movements. In addition and for such an addictive and vast open world, we did not notice any slowdowns! THE popping is still present, and some animations may seem stiff in 2023. So yes, you’re going to tell us that we’re dealing with a PS3 / Xbox 360 game, but although the title is dated, the developers have done a good job to make this adaptation run smoothly on the beautiful Big N.

Regarding handling? The smallness of Joy-Con may bother some people. For example, weapon selection, with such a tiny pad, is not practical. The fingers twist slightly, you just have to adapt a little to be operational during the intense phases. Let’s say that as a nomad, in a park with your buttocks resting on the grass, it helps, but sincerely, nothing beats a good Pro controller in front of your TV to live this crazy story as it should be. Finally, note that loading times are pretty quickand that the extension Undead Nightmare is available nearby; enough to extend the duration of a few hours.

Red Dead Redemption is a classic that deserves your attention if you’ve never laid your hands on this little masterpiece from days gone by. In addition, having it on Switch is a joy since we can play it anywhere, anytime and, given the rendering, we are convinced that the first version of GTA V could run smoothly on the Japanese giant’s console. Finally, there is a point that can make people cringe: the price. Fifty euros is a little too much to pay for a simple facelift. But if you have the opportunity to get it, go for it, you won’t regret it.

You can buy the Switch version of Red Dead Redemption on Amazon for €49.99.
