The price of the Samsung Galaxy S20 descends after it started selling in March and the current number 1 at Stiftung Warentest is now much cheaper. Is it the right time to strike now?
The Galaxy S20 and its two bigger brothers went on sale around three months ago. The time at the beginning of the Corona crisis was extremely unfavorable, which was certainly one reason why many users were not willing to spend at least 900 euros on the Galaxy S20. In addition, the improvements compared to the Galaxy S10 are relatively minor. According to the tech blog "Android Authority", Samsung only sold around 3.5 million units in the first quarter, compared to 5.2 million in the previous model a year earlier. But now the sales figures could pick up again, because the price of the South Korean top smartphone has dropped significantly.
Around 200 euros cheaper
You can currently get the simple Galaxy S20 including shipping in online retail for around 720 euros, the S20 + from 790 euros and the Galaxy S20 from 1060 euros. The basic model is now 180 euros cheaper than at the start of sales, for the 20+ you pay 210 euros less and the price of the ultra variant has even dropped by 290 euros.
It shouldn't go much deeper for the time being, as a look at the development of the predecessors shows. Their prices also went down in the spring, but stabilized in the summer. The simple Galaxy S10 also started in March 2019 for 900 euros and was reduced to just under 700 euros in the first three months. Then the price moved around this value for a long time and only fell further in the winter to around 600 euros. To date, it has not gone much lower.
It's hardly worth waiting longer
So you could still wait to pay maybe 100 euros less for the Galaxy S20. However, one should not forget that the Android device is getting older. You can expect updates for the operating system for two years, there are security patches for about three years.
Around 700 euros is a very fair price for a young top smartphone like the Galaxy S20. After all, it is the current number 1 at Stiftung Warentest (5G variant) and ntv.de can largely confirm the assessors' assessment. The device has a fantastic display and great camera equipment. It works very quickly, offers many functions and is waterproof and dustproof. Warentest only rated the mileage "satisfactory" (2.7), ntv.de thinks the battery performance of the S20 is good. In addition, despite a 6.2-inch screen, the device is one of the most compact luxury class smartphones that you can currently buy.
