She is Daniella in the city and Tina Tobago on stage and combines her two passions: care and dance. Portrait of a balanced and balancing young woman!
She wears the white blouse as well as the very fitted outfits of the famous Parisian cabaret, the Crazy Horse. Daniella, alias Tina Tobago on stage, in reference on the one hand to Tina Turner’s feline hair, and on the other hand to an island off the West Indies where she is from, is an accomplished young woman. “I combine my two passions, it’s a great chance, especially since one appeals to my brain, the other to my body. It’s complementary and it suits me very well,” explains Daniella, 33.
And it is from the earliest childhood that his two vocations are born. First of all, that of looking after, like her grandmother, a model for her. “She was part of an intensive care unit and, for me, it was never a question of me doing another job, it is natural to take care of others. It was obvious.” Then at the age of 12, Daniella discovers a video of the Crazy Horse broadcast at Christmas. “I was immediately fascinated by the way the dancers moved, what they gave off…”, she recalls.
Out of five hundred candidates each year, only thirty are selected
Already passionate about rhythmic gymnastics, which she has been practicing intensely for seven years now, the little girl promises herself that one day she will be a Crazy Girl. In 2010, at the age of 22, she obtained her nursing degree, chooses to exercise it in the operating room, and continues, moreover, the gymnastic at high level. She even obtained the title of vice-champion of France. It was only four years later that she finally applied for the prestigious cast of the mythical Parisian cabaret.
To achieve this, you must first correspond to very precise measurements. Two-thirds of the body in leg length; distance between the tips of the breasts: 21 cm; height: between 1.68 m and 1.73 m. Then, you have to charm the demanding jury. Out of five hundred candidates each year, only thirty are selected. That day, “in improvisation, topless and in high heels”, Daniella put on a show. Convincing, endowed with an unfathomable je-ne-sais-quoi appreciated by the casters, the young woman was selected and joined the troupe in April 2017.
During the health crisis, she devoted herself to her job as a nurse
“It was wonderful. When the curtain opened for my first show, I was still struggling to realize.” Since, it occurs twenty-four evenings a month, with two to three shows each time. A sustained life as an artist that had to be put aside for several months, starting in March 2020, because of the health crisis. Daniella then devoted herself fully to her job as a nurse and volunteered to join a intensive care unit. “Seeing the plight of my colleagues and patients, I couldn’t just stay at home. It was a very trying time physically and psychologically, but I’m proud to have helped.”
Since the reopening of the cabaret, the young woman has resumed her dual activity and juggles again between his shows, rehearsals, photo shoots and his vacations at the hospital. “Sometimes the two get mixed up. I wonder if I’ve done all the transmissions, disinfections while I’m putting on makeup before going on stage. And when I’m in the rest room at the hospital, I think about my next choreographies.” One thing is certain: under the neon lights of the block or draped in light on the stage, Daniella leads a “crazy life”.
