TF1 / Canal + affair: Molotov in turn attacks the Bouygues group channel

Molotov, the television distribution service on the Internet, in turn attacks TF1 and agrees with Canal+’s position regarding the distribution of Bouygues group channels on the various services of the Vivendi subsidiary. The French streaming platform has chosen its camp and defends itself by responding to the press release from the first channel.

A few days after ceasing to broadcast the free channels of the TF1 group, Canal+ is now joined by Molotov against the position of the encrypted channel. In a press release relayed on social networks on September 5, 2022 and through its general manager Grégory Samak, Molotov responds to TF1 while sharing the concerns expressed by the Canal+ group:

– relay programs from the TF1 group, currently inaccessible to Molotov users for several months;

– technical conditions, also denounced by the Canal+ group, consisting of the request for access to the app to app service, thus obliging Molotov users to download the MyTF1 application to access the programs of the group’s channels;

– financial conditions likely to have a direct impact on the price borne by the public, which raises questions in the case of free channels.”

Molotov backs Canal+ against TF1

Also in this press release, Molotov expresses his fear of a aggravation of these difficulties, in particular if the TF1/M6 merger is authorized. As a reminder, the merger between TF1 and M6 could ultimately be canceled since the Competition Authority considers that the proposed merger raises several problems.

But, as of this Monday, September 5, 2022, the television groups TF1 and M6 are being heard by the Competition Authority concerning their merger project. And the pressure from Canal+ carried out at the end of last week was not due to chance.

Finally, after being fined 7 million euros for infringement by the M6 group in December 2021 and paying another fine for illegally broadcasting TF1, it was quite logical that Molotov support the Canal + group in its approach. .
