If you are in the habit of blocking third-party cookies on the sites you visit, TF1+ will be almost unusable for you.
When it’s free, you’re the product. The adage is proven once again with the new TF1+ streaming platform. A few days after its launch, we learned that users who block third-party cookies cannot access almost anything on the service.
No cookies, no replay or live
It is the Internet user @xhark, on X.com, who is sounding the alarm. “The new TF1+ service offers additional features if you accept partner cookies”, he is surprised on the social network. He adds a screenshot to his message, indicating which features are accessible based on whether all cookies are accepted.
We quickly see that if third-party cookies are refused, the experience is very limited. It is only possible to view extracts, a short TF1+ format consisting of clips from programs already broadcast linearly, such as the television news, Star Academy or series.
To access live broadcasts or watch films and series on the platform, it is mandatory to accept all cookies. When you uncheck a privacy option, a message appears indicating that the “current settings no longer give you access” in replays and live. Remember that TF1+ broadcasts advertising to finance itself.
Is TF1+ compatible with the GDPR?
It seems that subscribing to TF1+ Premium allows you to have all the content available by refusing third-party cookies. It costs 5.99 euros per month. This formula also has the advantage of removing advertising breaks, providing access to previews, and unlocking the Chromecast function.
In his message on X.com, @xhark questions the compatibility of such a policy with the GDPR, the general data protection regulation. TF1+ does not violate the GDPR, because the service clearly explains that cookies are used to distribute personalized advertising, and that it leaves the user the choice to accept or not.
Since the introduction of the GDPR, some sites have also opted for another solution: requiring payment to access the content if you do not wish to be tracked. Here again, everything is legal as long as the Internet user has the choice and the necessary information.

Practical for catching up on a missed program on television, TF1+, on the other hand, struggles to justify its subscription which certainly removes advertising, but forgets many classic streaming features in passing. With the addition of profiles, parental controls or local downloading, the offer which allows itself to block other fundamental functionalities in its free version (Full HD, Chromecast, etc.) could better justify its price placement.
For the moment, TF1+ is little more than a simple service offering live channels, replay and a few films and series which tries to look like a streaming big name without fully giving itself the means. Despite everything, we will note a slight effort on the editorial side.
