PARIS, March 18 (Reuters) – The French competition authority announced on Friday that it was opening an in-depth examination phase into the proposed merger between TF1 and M6.

“At the end of the first phase of examination of the operation” planned by TF1, the first French private television channel, controlled by the Bouygues conglomerate, and M6, controlled by the Bertelsmann group, “the Authority considers that (it ) needs to be given a thorough review,” the statement said.

These additional analyzes will focus in particular on the impact of the operation on the acquisition of broadcasting rights for audiovisual content, the publishing and marketing of television channels as well as the distribution of television services and advertising.

The Autorité now plans to issue its decision on this proposed merger in the fall of 2022. (Written by Myriam Rivet, edited by Matthieu Protard)
