The TF1 channel loses this Wednesday, March 2, one of its emblematic figures. Jean-Pierre Pernaut died of cancer leaving a unique legacy on French TV.

A passionate man. This is how TF1 signs its portrait of the man who ensured for 33 years the JT of 13 on its antenna. Jean-Pierre Pernaut was the journalist of the regions, the terroir and the French heritage. He marked the identity of the channel with his newspapers dedicated to all French people.

This evening on the 8 p.m. news, the channel paid tribute to the journalist who marked the viewers but also all the editorial staff and the technical team responsible for broadcasting the latest news every day.

The chain gives him this Wednesday, March 2, a tribute to the height of his career. 48 years to live for journalism, Jean-Pierre Pernaut was a reporter then a television presenter with always in mind to get information out of Paris.

From his beginnings to his departure from the news: the career of Jean-Pierre Pernaut

The 8 p.m. returned to the entire career of Jean-Pierre Pernaut, from his beginnings in Amiens until his departure in December 2020 from 1 p.m.

Interviewed at the time of his departure from the JT, Jean-Pierre Pernaut told how he started his career. The interview was illustrated by the journalist’s first reports in his region. We discover a young reporter eager to report what is the everyday life of citizens in the French regions.

Moved and amused, Jean-Pierre Pernaut tells in this portrait that he arrived at TF1 “January 6, 1975, the day the channel was founded.” In the report he presents himself as “a complainer”. But a passionate complainer.

Pure product of TF1, Jean-Pierre Pernaut has therefore built the identity of the information giant. “I kept moaning in the hallways, because I live in Amiens and go back and forth every morning. It annoyed me that the TV news was only Parisian”says the presenter in the portrait.

This is how the DNA of 13h de Pernaut was born. His own experience and his desire to speak from his home, participated in building this very particular journal.
