TGS 2022: Street Fighter 6, the introduction of the shared World Tour mode, formalizing the 18 fighters of the starting roster!

As part of his presence at Tokyo Game Show 2022, Capcom held a general presentation this Thursday to tell us about its various games, including street fighter 6thus formalizing the presence of blanka, Dhalsim, E.Honda and Ken in the roster while showing us the different game modes, with avatar creation and customization, and announcing a closed beta. We also had an appointment this Friday for a live dedicated to the game, the replay of which can be found at the end of the article.

This presentation in the presence of producer Shuhei Matsumoto and director Takayuki Nakayama began with a demonstration of the newcomers’ techniques, first with a Ken vs. blanka then a Dhalsim vs. E.Honda, all showing in passing the two types of commands (classic and modern). The mode Coaching was also highlighted as well as the brand new Extreme Battle with a bull charging at the fighters at regular intervals. But the most interesting thing followed, namely the broadcast of the introduction of fashion World Tour allowing us to create our avatar and which will act as a scenario.

The latter simply reveals the roster base of Street Fighter 6, which will consist of 18 fighters. So we already knew 11 of them, namely Ryu, Chun Li, Luke, Jamie, Guile, Kimberley, Juri, blanka, Dhalsim, E.Honda and Ken. The others were not unknown to us, however, because the leaked appeared at the beginning of June is now well verified, except for a few micro-details of pronunciation and by noting the absence of 4 characters probably relegated to the rank of inevitable DLCs. Thereby, Zangief, Cammy and Dee Jay will make a comeback, while Manon (the Frenchwoman designated by the name Mimi in the leaked), Maria, Lily and JP will be completely new. Rashid, Ed, Akuma and the mysterious AKI could therefore only appear in a possible Season Pass/Character Passas it’s hard to believe at this point that their appearance on leaked visuals was coincidental.

Following this video, we were able to discover the first minutes of this mode, which take place in the gymnasium where Luke teaches the art of combat. The creation of our named avatar has been introduced and promises to be ultra complete by giving access to certain attributes specific to members of the roster like the well-developed hairiness of Zangief or various types of beards, while 12 types of voices will be available. Once designed, we will be treated to a tutorial on how to move and the basics of combat, ending with our meeting with a certain Boschwho is on track to act as a rival.

The presentation then focused on the fighters already unveiled and their morphology, in addition to showing an overview behind the scene motion capture of Jamie’s movements made by a breakdancer.

Various initiatives surrounding the license concluded the live, with the Capcom Cup on the e-sport side, an event for the 35th anniversary which will take place on January 29, 2023 in Shibuya with a concert, a collaboration for clothing and an exhibition in several Japanese cities. The last one delighted us, because Ryōko Shinohara covered the song Itoshisa to Setsunasa to Kokoro Zuyosa to composed by Tetsuya Komuro and used in Street Fighter II, the movie to serve as an image song for Street Fighter 6 ! The singer said in a video message that she was not sure if she would be able to perform it again after all these years (28 years anyway). As you can see below, she pulled it off brilliantly, and the charm of 90s songs is clearly noticeable. You can listen to both versions below.

This very promising street fighter 6 does not yet have a release date, but is expected in 2023 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Waiting, Street Fighter V: Champion Edition is still sold on Amazon at the price of 24.99 €.
