Two people have been killed in an ongoing shootout in Petchaburi province, Thai police said on Wednesday, as they surrounded the shooter.
“Police surrounded the area… where a gunman started shooting, killing two men and injuring another personnational police spokesman Achayon Kraithong told AFP.
High gun rate
The shooting took place in Petchaburi, about 100 kilometers southwest of the capital Bangkok, at around 3:00 p.m. local time, he said. “The situation is still ongoing“, he explained.
Thailand, which has a high rate of gun ownership, has seen similar incidents in recent months. The kingdom was bereaved in October by the deadliest massacre in its recent history, when a former police officer killed 36 people, including 24 children, in the province of Nong Bua Lamphu (Northeast).
