Thales InnoTrans 2022: paving the way for sustainable autonomous transport and cybersecurity

Thales at InnoTrans 2022: paving the way for sustainable and cybersecure autonomous transport

09/12/2022

  • Thales will present at InnoTrans 2022, from September 20 to 23 in Berlin (stands n° 670, 571 – Hub27), its latest innovations to make sustainable mobility a reality.
  • The latest-generation integrated digital platform developed by Thales makes it possible to supervise all of the on-board and track subsystems with a simple click. On the stand, rail operators will be able to explore multiple use cases based on artificial intelligence, whether controlling the density of passengers, analyzing images from the on-board video system or testing solutions for the autonomous train.
  • Rail operators will also be able to find out all about the cybersecurity solutions offered by Cybels, Thales’s key management platform, in particular the cryptographic key management services for ETCS, the European train control system.

From intercity and cross-border connections to urban mobility, digitalization is key to the future of rail transport and its sustainability. For Thales, the train must be safe, affordable, accessible, efficient and resilient, offering a drastic reduction in carbon emissions and other pollutants and a limited impact on the environment. To this end, efforts are today more than ever focused on improving capacities, reducing costs, remote management of activities and strengthening resilience. Connectivity and Artificial Intelligence are at the heart of Thales solutions, with standardization, security and cybersecurity as priorities.

This 2022 edition of InnoTrans will be an opportunity to discover rail transport as conceived by Thales. On its stand – connected to the Lucy rolling lab, in which the solutions for the autonomous train developed by Thales – you will be able to see how Thales products make it possible to transform “raw” data into operational benefits, namely an improvement in the performance and capacity of rail networks, guaranteeing better transport conditions, punctuality and environmental performance.

You can also find out more about the cybersecurity solutions with the presentation of Cybels, the Thales key management platform for the European train control system (KMC4ETCS) and its associated services.

The operational control center is the brain of the rail network. On the Thales stand, visitors will be able to play with its latest-generation integrated digital platform which makes it possible, with a simple click, to supervise all the on-board and track subsystems. They will be able to explore many use cases based on artificial intelligence, whether it is to control passenger density, save energy or improve customer satisfaction. They will be able to discover how Thales, thanks to the capabilities of its remote operational control center, proposes to strengthen resilience, while guaranteeing the cybersecurity of critical infrastructures.

Thales specializes in IT/OT-based solutions – integrating information technology (IT), hardware and software for data processing, with operational technology (OT) for controlling operations – which capitalize on Thales’s experience in the transport and cybersecurity sectors of large complex infrastructures. Thales covers the entire cyber value chain : security from the design stage, advice and audits in cybersecurity, detection and protection against cyberattacks. In a context of constantly evolving cyber threats, Thales ensures the security, availability and resilience of its customers’ transport systems, while respecting international and national regulations and standards.

“Thales is a global player with unparalleled experience in land transport systems, both in the freight and passenger transport markets. Its expertise covers both new line equipment projects and the modernization of existing infrastructure. Thanks to its vast portfolio of electronic and IT systems, Thales can offer mainline and urban transport operators solutions that cover many areas: signaling, traffic supervision, communications, security and ticketing. We integrate all rail systems for maximum operational efficiency and reduced operating costs. Our systems build passenger confidence because operators can offer them the best passenger experience and safe, secure, smooth, connected and reliable rail services. »Millar Crawford, Deputy Managing Director, Ground Transportation Systems Thales

After having recruited 7,000 people worldwide in 2021, Thales is accelerating its hiring policy and recruiting more than 11,000 employees, including 4,000 in France (on permanent and fixed-term contracts). The transportation industry is constantly looking for new experienced talent. This sector currently offers hundreds of interesting positions worldwide in different fields, including engineering. In addition to these recruitments, there are 3,500 internship and apprenticeship proposals, as many training and job opportunities within the Group.
