Thales continues to shop in cybersecurity. The defense and electronics manufacturer has just unveiled its plan to buy the Australian company Tesserent, a friendly takeover bid for 176 million Australian dollars (about 107 million euros).
Dynamic markets
The French company, 25% owned by the French state, wants to “strengthen its presence in Australia and New Zealand”, she explains in a press release. These are two dynamic markets that should experience “double-digit” growth in the next three years.
Tesserent claims together with its more than 1200 customers – enterprises, public organizations and critical infrastructures – to be the leading cybersecurity provider listed on the Australian Stock Exchange. As Les Echos reminds us, the Australian company founded in Melbourne operates two security supervision centers in Australia, an offer that should complement the network of nine centers operated worldwide by Thales.
Fourth acquisition
This is the fourth acquisition announced by Thales in the cybersecurity sector in just over a year. In May 2022, the industrialist announced that it wanted to take over S21sec and Excellium, two companies present in Spain, Portugal and Belgium. Then in July 2022, Patrice Caine’s group announced the purchase for 100 million euros of OneWelcome, a Dutch specialist in identity and access management.
So many acquisitions that should allow the company, which is in the process of separating from its rail signaling activities, promised for 1.66 billion euros to the Japanese Hitachi Rail, to grow further in the cybersecurity market. Thales achieved a turnover of 1.5 billion euros in this field in 2022 and has 4,000 experts.
