Thales: reduced emissions for reduction permits in GB – 06/04/2024 at 10:20

(CercleFinance.com) – Thales announced on Tuesday that it had developed a series of measures that have made it possible to reduce the carbon footprint of driving licenses in the United Kingdom by more than a third.

In a press release, the French group recalls that it has been supplying polycarbonate driving licenses to the British agency responsible for driving licenses and vehicle registrations (DVLA) since 2012.

It also manufactures tachograph cards and residence cards for EU citizens needing to prove their right to reside and work in Britain.

By adopting eco-design principles, Thales indicates that it has halved the size of the contactless microcontrollers used for these cards, leading to a proportional reduction in their CO2 emissions.

Since 2018, Thales estimates that it has reduced by more than a third the carbon emissions associated with the 12 million cards it provides to the DVLA each year.

Thales emphasizes that its card production sites emphasize energy performance by using fully renewable electricity which represents more than 70% of their energy consumption.

These improvements have enabled the company to reduce production-related CO2 emissions by more than 80% since 2018.
