Thales: strengthens in cybersecurity and seduces the US Army with its tactical radios

On a well-oriented Parisian market, Thales rose 0.88% to 115.10 euros per share, against a backdrop of news provided. The equipment manufacturer for aerospace, defense and security has thus won a major contract with the American army and announced two acquisitions in the strategic field of cybersecurity.

Regarding the contract with the US Army, it concerns the supply of advanced tactical radios. Thales is one of the two suppliers retained by the American army. This 10-year contract provides for a basic period of five years, followed by a second period of five years, which is optional. It’s capped at $6 billion.

It is part of the American desire to decommission the SINCGARS system (Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System), which is now outdated.

This contract follows those of October 2021 by which the US Army ordered Thales its two-channel radio AN/PRC-148D Leader Radio and its new single-channel AN/PRC-170 Javelin Radio.

At the same time, Thales is strengthening its cybersecurity activities by acquiring two European companies, S21sec and Excellium, from Sonae Investment Management. The holding company that brings them together, Maxive Cybersecurity, is valued at 120 million euros.

This acquisition complements Thales’s cybersecurity portfolio, by strengthening its incident detection and response services (Security Operations Center SOC) as well as its consulting, auditing and integration services.

S21sec and Excellium employ a total of 546 people and achieved a combined turnover of 59 million euros in 2021.
