(Boursier.com) — As part of its new contract with the Direction Générale de l’Armement (DGA), Thales will supply new-generation STAR NG and RSM NG primary and secondary approach radars to renew, from 2025, the fleet of radars at French air and naval bases. This contract is part of stage 5 of the DGA’s SCCOA program.

The DGA of the Ministry of the Armed Forces announced the launch of the new modernization program which includes the replacement of fixed and mobile radars and the renewal of the air operations command and control system. This contract will provide the French forces with a high-performance aerial surveillance solution, based on Thales civilian radar technologies adapted to military operations.

With the supply of new generation STAR NG and RSM NG primary and secondary approach radars, aerial surveillance will be provided 24/7, with enhanced operational capabilities and detection performance. These systems will also meet the combined requirements of dealing with obsolescence and adapting to national and European regulations.

Since the first delivery in 1970, Thales has made a major contribution to the protection of airspace with a complete range of radars used to manage aerial surveillance and the approach zones of airports and airbases. At the forefront of new technologies, with substantial investments in R&D and capitalizing on more than 50 years of experience in air traffic control, Thales has developed major innovations in the field of airspace security in order to meet to the changing needs of customers in the civil and military sectors. The most recent innovations on the co-mounted STAR NG and RSM NG system bring higher performance and more precise detection capacities as well as the addition of new functionalities such as protection against electronic jamming, 3D detection, detection of aircraft operating at low speed (rotary wings), fast and maneuverable aircraft (combat aircraft) and the integration of ADS-B detection with Mode S.

Recognized for their reliability, their performance and the integration of the most recent digital innovations, Thales’s approach and en-route radars bring more than 50 years of expertise in the field of air traffic control and surveillance. They constitute the largest installed base in the world with more than 1,000 radars delivered in more than 100 countries.
