Thandiwe Newton accepted the wrong spelling of her name for 30 years. Now the actress speaks a word of power.

As Thandie Newton, she conquered Hollywood. This is not the correct spelling of her name, as actress Thandiwe Newton (48, “Westworld”) now says Interview with the UK edition of Vogue magazine clarified. For years she had lived with the typo that first crept in in 1991 in the credits of the film “Flirting”. That’s enough of that.

“That’s my name. It’s always been my name. I’ll get back what’s mine,” Newton explained. What is the name Thandiwe all about? It comes from the Bantu language Shona and means “loved”. The correct pronunciation: “tan-dee-way”.
