They keep telling us how much they miss us, send care packages, make vacation plans with us for 2022 and hear for the 287th time that everything is terribly exhausting. Thank you, your grandmas and grandpas of this world! We miss you too! A lot!
Silence in the nursery for an hour. Only in between the rustling of little hands in the LEGO box and a few voices. "Grandma Bear, do you want a pool on the roof of your motorhome" "Of course, Grandma Bear wants it. Your LEGO version is roasting lazily in the hammock on the motorhome sun deck in the children's room ceiling lamp sun. "I'm so hot, is there an ice cream parlor here somewhere?" Asks the real grandma over the phone. "No, Grandma, that doesn't exist yet", answer the two little ones, but immediately start working on the colorful foundation walls. A few minutes later, the LEGO grandma has stracciatella and lemon in her hand. "Mmmmmhhh! Yummy!" I sneak back down on tiptoe and fall on the sofa with a coffee. In my mind I send a huge thank you to the universe. Grandma gave us this moment! Me the peace and quiet without a guilty conscience and the children an afternoon in the motorhome on the beach somewhere in Florida. Grandma is watching. And so everyone has what they urgently need today.
Love has many faces
No matter where you ask, the same everywhere. Grandmas and grandpas' share price has skyrocketed. The Bitcoin hype is a joke against the hype about grandparents. Were we ungrateful before? Oh, I wouldn't go that far. But when half life is in lockdown, no sports course, hardly any contacts and no more daycare or school, then you realize who the "last men standing" are: the grandmas and grandpas of the children, i.e. our own parents! Each and every one in his and her very own way. Some have chic home-baked food that tastes like home, others organize an outside stick bread party or a scavenger hunt, others read a video call, explain the binomial formulas or put a few flowers in front of the door against a lockdown mood. Some drive for hours for a single walk together at a distance or learn for us to deal with the new media. They listen to our breakdowns, both major and minor, on the phone and never tire of saying that they have the greatest respect for us in these times. It seems as if nothing is too strenuous for them to somehow be there with us and for us, and to feel that is actually the greatest value of all their loving endeavors.
You are our bright spot!
You grandmas and grandpas out there, maybe you think your effort is a drop in the ocean, but that's not the case. We see exactly what you are doing and it is so valuable! Maybe we tell you too seldom, but be sure: We are infinitely grateful for you! For all that you were for us as a family before this caustic pandemic and for all that you still manage to be for us now. It will be so nice to finally be able to hug each other again without fear, to eat your delicious food and to close your eyes, knowing that you will take good care of the children in the meantime. In all honesty: you are our ray of hope in all this madness! Just stay healthy and take good care of yourself! As a LEGO version, parcel mailer and as a 2D video caller you are already great, but we look forward to seeing you live and in real life even more! It will be nice! THANK YOU from the heart!
