A new era is dawning for Fortnite. Epic Games’ battle royale has kicked off its fourth chapter with a slew of new content and other visually significant additions.

Indeed, the American firm has updated its graphics engine in order to make its game even more beautiful!

Deep changes

Fortnite never stops evolving! With the launch of Chapter 4, players can now roam an all-new island with never-before-seen locations. Some famous people like Geralt de Riv de The Witcher or the Doom Slayer (from DOOM necessarily) also appear in the cast. But it is in a completely different register that Epic Games has achieved a real tour de force.

Thus, a transition to version 5.1 of the Unreal Engine 5 is also in the news on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and via cloud gaming. Different functionalities and tools are now supported in order to offer the most impactful visual rendering.

Yes, Fortnite is beautiful!

Among the new features, we can highlight the arrival of the function Nanite which offers an ultra-detailed architectural geometry. Each element of a building (bricks, stones, planks, etc.) is modeled with precision. Unreal Engine 5.1 also announces the arrival of real-time (and 60 FPS) global illumination technology Lumen. It brings rather impressive ray tracing reflections. The improvements can be seen below.

Virtual shadow maps are included and lead quite logically to more precise shadows. Finally, the temporal super-resolution (TSR) improves the overall rendering of the graphics and provides an even better refresh rate. In short, Fortnite definitely looks great!
