The Opera browser has seen its use on iOS jump in France since the introduction of the Digital Markets Act (DMA), the new European regulation. Its growth is simply dazzling.
The impact of the Digital Markets Act is already being felt in Europe, on browsers like Brave. Others, like Opera, are experiencing exceptional growth on iOS in France. The Norwegian tool saw its number of daily active users increase by 164% on the Old Continent between March 5 and 7. Opera’s recent performance suggests that Apple device users are indeed looking for alternatives, and that the browser is responding to that demand.
Opera takes full advantage of the new European regulations
In France, the figures are even more impressive, with a 402% increase in the number of daily users on iOS. Spain, Poland and Germany… there is no shortage of other countries where Opera is recruiting new fans. On Android, Opera also recorded a 54% increase in its number of daily users since the implementation of the nerd screenwhich allows you to choose from several browsers.
This growth therefore takes place in the context of the entry into force of the Digital Markets Act. Remember that this new European reference regulatory text aims to promote fair competition on digital platforms.
Opera, already the fifth largest browser in the world in 2023 with 3.12% market share on desktop, is positioned here as an attractive alternative in the eyes of users, with advanced features and an improved user experience, thanks to its good control of the artificial intelligence.
Users are asking for alternative browsers
The increasing use of users for browsers other than Chrome or Safari clearly shows the effectiveness of DMA. A preliminary study carried out by Opera before March 6 showed us that the majority of users were ready to test new browsers.
Opera’s mobile browsers, both on iOS and Android, offer highly requested advanced features, such as free VPN, an ad blocker and, as we mentioned, integrated AI for up-to-date results on the web.
For Jorgen Arnesen, representative of the Oslo-based company, this sharp increase in daily active users underlines two major points, “ the positive impact of regulation on fair competition and user demand for innovative products ensuring an improved online experience “. Opera can continue its transformation a little more calmly.
