Thanks to Tesla, long journeys in electric cars become even easier in Europe

Tesla is finally opening its Superchargers to other electric cars in several additional European countries. Among them, Romania, Ireland and Hungary. Enough to make long trips even easier and silence the detractors of this engine.

Many motorists still fear finding themselves short of range and this is why they are not yet ready to go electric. However, this reason is less and less legitimate, and above all, breakdowns are actually quite rare. A recent study also showed that the best way to fight against range anxiety was actually to buy an electric one.

Even more practical

However, there are still many drivers who fear making long journeys, and to travel abroad with their electric car. However, it is proven that going far with a zero-emission (exhaust) car is entirely possible, as Norwegian YouTuber Bjørn Nyland regularly shows with his 1,000 kilometer test. And truth be told, it’s even getting simpler and simpler over the years.

This is particularly thanks to the rapid development of charging stations, when there are already more than 110,000 in France alone. Operators are increasingly numerous throughout the world and in Europe, with high powers currently reaching 400 kW. If Tesla Superchargers are limited to 250 kW currently they have another strength.

Indeed, the manufacturer has a very vast network, having passed the milestone of 10,000 terminals on the Old Continent last year. And the expansion continues, with regular new openings and the arrival of the even more practical V4. Especially since recently, certain Superchargers have also been accessible to other electric cars, all brands combined.

This is particularly the case in France, but also in the Netherlands, among others. But now other countries are now affected by this good news, as the American manufacturer announced in a communicated. Since December 8, all electric car drivers can connect to Tesla Superchargers in Romania, Hungary and Ireland.

Not everywhere yet

The vast majority of electric cars sold in Europe can be recharged at Tesla terminals. And for good reason, Tesla uses CCS connector in Europe. Fortunately, the latter is shared with almost all electric cars on the market, except for a few old or exotic models.

However, the manufacturer wishes to impose its NACS connector, already used in the United States. But it’s not yet here for us. Furthermore, you should know that not all Superchargers are yet open to everyone. According to the site Teslarati, this will only be the case for a handful of them at first. In Ireland, five stations out of the nine present will offer this functionality.

This will be particularly the case for the one located in the capital, Dublin, as well as in Cork and Athenry. In Hungary, there are eight, including four installed around Budapest. An identical number in Romania, with two near Bucharest and the others scattered throughout the country. These terminals then deliver a power of 250 kW and save up to 275 kilometers in 15 minutes.

Only a handful of countries are missing (like Portugal or Poland) for Tesla to open access to all of its stations to owners of electric cars throughout Europe.

You should know that drivers of electric cars other than Teslas must pay a slightly higher rate to be able to use Superchargers. Last May, it cost 0.46 euros per kWh during off-peak hours compared to 0.35 euros for Tesla owners. It is also possible toopt for a subscription billed at 12.99 euros per month to pay the same price as drivers of American brand cars.
