  • A 21-year-old should pay the equivalent of 120 euros for a parking offense in the UK.
  • With a Google Maps screenshot he was able to prove his innocence.

The route planner Google Maps not only guides you from A to B, but also records where you are during the day in the location history. The feature has now saved a 21-year-old from a hefty fine in the UK.

A car park operator had obtained a fine of the equivalent of around 120 euros against the driver because he was said to have exceeded the maximum parking time by three hours. As evidence, the operator produced a series of photos showing the 21-year-old exiting the parking lot in his car.

In fact, he had not parked in the parking lot, but only used a passage and passed the parking lot, reports the British tabloid Mirror. He was able to prove this with a screenshot of his location history. The operator then withdrew the fine notice.

A screenshot from Google Maps also served as evidence in Peru in 2020 – but in a marital dispute that ended in the couple’s divorce.
