Thanks to Xiaomi, this electric sports car announces 500 km of autonomy

Here is the SC-01, a promising electric sports car, unveiled by a young Chinese brand in which the giant Xiaomi has invested several million yuan.

Chinese brands are now increasingly well known in Europe. One thinks of course of MG but also of Aiways or BYD, Nio and Xpeng, which are also beginning their offensive. But there are many others, still unknown. This is particularly the case of Tianjin Gongjiangpai Auto Technology, founded in 2016 by Feng Xiaotongas a brand of tuning accessories.

An investment from Xiaomi

A few days ago, the Chinese firm lifted the veil on his very first car, soberly baptized SC-01, an acronym that simply means “sport car” as explained by the Car News China site which relays this information. However, another name may be chosen depending on the markets where it will be marketed. Described as a rather compact car, it has a length of 4.09 meters for 1.82 meters wide and only 1.16 high. All with a wheelbase measuring 2.50 meters. The styling is angular and sporty, while the coupé sports air intakes in the bumper and on the sides.

Unfortunately, no interior image has yet been shown by the Chinese brand. Nevertheless, the Autohome site seems to have been able to access some information and points out that the driving position only has physical controls. No screen should therefore be present in this cabin. This probably explains the relatively affordable price of the car, announced below the 300,000 yuan mark, which is more or less equivalent to around 43,317 euros.

But if this car exists, it is partly thanks to Xiaomi. If the firm wishes to embark on the creation of its own car, it is already present in the capital of the young Chinese manufacturer, while it would have invested several tens of millions of Yuans. In addition, its co-founder Liu Dezheng is also at the head of Tianjin Gongjiangpai Auto Technology.

A promising technical sheet

Under its body, this new SC-01 has two electric motors with a total power of 320 kW, or about 435 horsepower, while the torque has not been announced. The 0 to 100 km/h is then achieved in 3.9 seconds, which is slower than a Tesla Model 3 Performance, which performs the same exercise in just 3.3 seconds. But for the boss of the brand, the interest of his sports car remains its agile behavior and its affordable price.

If the battery capacity has not been communicated, the autonomy should be around 500 kilometers, probably according to the Chinese CLTC cycle which is more optimistic than the European WLTP.

Orders for this SC-01 will open from the 3rd quarter of 2023, while deliveries will begin at the end of 2024. A deposit of 199 Yuans, or approximately 29 euros will be requested for the reservation. For the time being, nothing has yet been said about an arrival in Europe, but that should logically not be for now.
