Former France international Patrice Evra is a good buddy of Ronaldo and was formerly his teammate at Manchester United. Together, the two played 121 games between 2005 and 2009.
Evra, like Ronaldo, also played for Juventus and now the Frenchman reveals why his friend left Turin in the summer quite surprisingly. It was one of the big hammer transfers just before the start of the season. After three years, Ronaldo, now 36 years old, said Juventus Turin ciao. The five-time world footballer moved back to his ex-club Manchester United on the island.
The change has to do with respect and love, says Evra. Ronaldo would have increasingly missed both in Turin. He felt that he was treated unfairly in the Allianz Stadium. “That he was made the scapegoat for the bad results at Juve, that hurt him a lot.”
There were also statements by his bosses that deeply affected Ronaldo. Juve boss Andrea Agnelli said in an interview that Ronaldo’s time as the team’s superstar would slowly come to an end. And coach Massimiliano Allegri announced that Ronaldo will not play all the games. Evra: “There is no need to say something like that in public when you know how much it hurts Ronaldo.”
By the way: Both Juve and Manchester United got off to a disappointing start to the season. Both clubs bob around in their leagues to 7th place in the table. Ronaldo have only scored three league goals in 483 minutes for the Red Devils. A quota that by no means corresponds to the Portuguese’s self-image.
