that much-loved returning character? You will be disappointed

It is undeniable that, since the end of the films, the Star Wars saga has enjoyed remarkable success through its series. Just look at the indisputable triumph of “The Mandalorian” or “Obi-Wan Kenobi”. However, Disney’s strategy sometimes remains ambiguous.

In recent years, it is mainly through the series that Star Wars has shone: The Mandalorian, Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and soon Ahsoka. Nevertheless, Disney seems less inclined to overexploit its franchises as it used to. Could this be a sign of Bob Iger’s recent change of course, CEO of Disney?

Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi, the only hope

During a recent interview, the media “The Hollywood Reporter” had the opportunity to interview Deborah Chow, director of the six episodes of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. During this interview, a question about a possible season 2 centered on the Jedi embodied by Ewan McGregor was of course asked. His response was immediate:

There’s another 10 years of stories to explore, and I wouldn’t say that’s out of the question. “Never say never”, but we designed this project as a limited series.

The interview also reveals that as soon as filming was finished, Ewan McGregor approached the director with ideas for a second season. On the side of the actor, the motivation is therefore undeniable. It’s true that finding events to depict over a 10-year period, especially in the Star Wars universe, shouldn’t be a problem. However, with Disney having already overused the Darth Vader card, it will be difficult to recreate the phenomenal surprise effect of the first season.

It will therefore be necessary to show ingenuity to find a worthy adversary. Perhaps an expanded role for Qui-Gon Jinn as a Force presence could be considered? Still, Liam Neeson, his interpreter, would have to agree. And given his opinion on the spin-offs, it seems compromised… The other possibility, and not the least, would be to exploit the character of Darth Maul, whom Star Wars fans adore. We know that a duel took place between the two characters, so it would be perfect.
