In episode 4 of the fourth season of The Crownthe Duke of Edinburgh asserted without language of wood that “Any honest parent would admit to having a favorite child”before telling his wife, incredulous, that everyone knew who was his. The Netflix series is strongly inspired by the daily lives of members of the royal family, and even if some of the stories told are to be taken with a grain of salt, it is true that Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II had their little darlings among their children and grandchildren. If many believe that the Duke of Edinburgh had the most affinity with Prince William, with whom he shared a common passion for aviation, royal experts are betting on another of his grandchildren. It would be one of the descendants of his son Prince Edward of Wessex and Countess Sophie Rhys-Jones.

Why the Duke of Edinburgh was particularly fond of Lady Louise

According to royal experts, Lady Louise, who suffered from a serious eye disease when she was younger, would be the favorite granddaughter of the Duke of Edinburgh. The latter passed a lot of time with his grandfather during the summer at the Balmoral estate. They shared a common passion for riding, a sport that has become popular in the United Kingdom thanks in particular to Prince Philip. And for good reason, the latter has represented Great Britain in three European championships and six world championships. To take over, he therefore counted on his granddaughter. Although he walked much less as he got older, the Duke of Edinburgh did not miss a single Lady Louise competition. As he revealed in his book 30 Years On and Off The Box Seat, “his reactions are slower and his memory less reliable”but it has “never lost the pure pleasure of driving a team through the British countryside”. We imagine that the presence of her grandfather must be greatly missed by the young woman when she rides a horse. Her precious memories with Prince Philip must however help him to always surpass himself.
