that’s it, development has started in earnest

We’ll have to get used to it now, CD Projekt Red gives news on the progress of its projects. And good news the development of The Witcher 4 has begun.

Serious things will start. CD Projekt Red has announced that it has completed the research phase around what is currently called The Witcher 4. The next game around the Witcher universe has therefore now entered the pre-production phase, where the biggest work will be done: modeling of the open world, characters, design of all the narration, gameplay mechanics, etc. In short, the big job begins.

Things are moving forward for The Witcher 4

The concrete development of the game therefore began in the first quarter of 2022. For the moment, The Witcher 4 is overseen by a team of 100 developers, who already announce that they are feeling the progress brought by the Unreal Engine 5 in terms of efficiency and of productivity.

Remember that the Polish studio has put its own engine in the closet and been seduced by the capabilities of that of Epic Games, which would be able to do wonders in terms of open world design. For its part, CD Projekt Red is also developing its own tools for narration, no doubt to push its mechanics of dialogues, choices and consequences even further.

All that’s left to do is wait

Very good news then, but that does not mean that we will see The Witcher 4 anytime soon. It will still be years before the game takes shape and the developers are ready to show it off. A small CGI teaser to whet fans’ mouths is not excluded, but priority is currently given to the Cyberpunk 2077 narrative DLC.

For its part, the next-gen patch of The Witcher 3 has finally been pushed back to the end of the year. It will at least allow players to wait while waiting for the arrival of the new saga and the next season of the Netflix series.
