Things are moving at Nintendo and the Pokémon Company. The manufacturer has just announced the broadcast of a Direct Partner Showcase, while the broadcast of the next expected Pokémon Presents has been made official.
The months of January and February are often dedicated to the first broadcasts responsible for partly presenting the program for the year to come. Xbox took part in the exercise, as did Sony.
That left Nintendo, from which we expect a lot this year, and which did not announce its usual Nintendo Direct. While waiting to find out what the brand is preparing for the years to come.
A Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase in the absence of a “real” Direct
Rumors surrounding the so-called Nintendo Switch 2 are becoming very persistent, and recent sources agree that the launch could take place in early 2025. However, Nintendo has not yet announced anything about the next console . We know that the Switch will remain Nintendo’s “main business” in 2024, and that the future will be discussed with shareholders in May, during the next investor call.
However, the absence of a “real” Nintendo Direct fuels speculation, which will be temporarily muted this Wednesday, February 21 at 3 p.m. Nintendo will indeed broadcast a Partner Showcase, a format dedicated to third-party studios that work more or less with Nintendo. The broadcast will last approximately 25 minutes, and information is expected in particular on Xbox games supposed to become multiplatform. Shin Megami Tensei V could also be at the heart of the matter, with an enhanced version of the game having leaked very recently.
You will have understood, there is absolutely no question of talking about games made internally, and even less about the next console imagined by Nintendo. It remains to be seen whether what will be announced will compensate for the virtual absence of first-party Nintendo games in the coming months, with the exception of Princess Peach: Showtime! and Luigi’s Mansion 2.
Pokémon will follow Nintendo’s lead next week
You may not know it, but February 27 is Pokémon Day, in reference to the Japanese release date of the first generation on GameBoy. For several years now, this day has been dedicated to celebrating the license, with numerous events including Pokémon Presents. This is a video format in which the Pokémon Company reveals its schedule.
We are therefore generally entitled to the presentation of updates to existing games, future Pokémon GO events or upcoming audiovisual productions. This is also where the next games in the franchise are presented. Unsurprisingly, February 27, 2024 will be marked by the broadcast of a new Pokémon Presents.
It will take place at 3 p.m. on the usual platforms, and we are particularly waiting to discover which games will occupy the space while waiting for the next generation. Many are hoping for a new episode of Pokémon Legends, but what is currently holding the rope is the idea of a remake of the fifth generation, formed by Pokémon White / Black and Pokémon Black 2 / White 2.
