DuckDuckGo, the browser that protects your privacy is finally available on Windows.
The DuckDuckGo browser, nine months after its launch on Mac, is now available for Windows users. The American company behind this browser respects its original promise, that of not collecting your data and not tracking you on the web.
A privacy-friendly alternative to traditional browsers
DuckDuckGo looks exactly like popular browsers like Chrome or Edge: row of tabs at the top of the window and large text area for searching and entering URLs. The default search engine is DuckDuckGo, but this is easily editable. It also offers a unique feature. A YouTube viewer called DuckPlayer can remove ad targeting, recommendations, and tracking from a YouTube page.
The big difference with its competitors is that DuckDuckGo does not collect your personal information and will never track your browsing activities. This ensures a completely private, track-free browsing experience. No need to adjust additional settings or add extensions to maintain your privacy.
A complete browser and complex development
The team has been working on the Windows application for several years, explains Peter Dolanjski, director of products for the firm. Development on this OS was new to the team and so it took longer, as the Windows ecosystem is more complex than others.
Based on WebView2 technology (like Chrome and most other browsers), DuckDuckGo is in beta version but is already very complete in terms of features. It runs smoothly on Android, IOS or Linux. It offers the possibility of automatically deleting browsing data, protecting against website tracking or obtaining a privacy score for the sites visited. At the moment it does not yet support extensions, but the team is working on it.
DuckDuckGo, now available on Windows, can clearly compete with the biggest. Still under development, it will soon integrate new features to make it even more complete. If you are looking to browse the web in complete privacy, this browser may be an option worth seriously considering.
